About Unlocking Language
Unlocking Language is an established paediatric speech and language therapy service that has been supporting children, young people and families for over 13 years.
Our mission is to make speech and language therapy accessible to families, and an important part of this is being able to provide therapy within children’s own homes.
We are looking for Freelance Paediatric Speech & Language Therapists to join our team and provide home-based speech and language therapy during evenings and weekends.
The Role
This is a flexible, community-based role providing one-to-one speech and language therapy in children’s homes.
You will work with children and young people with a broad range of speech, language and communication needs, which may include:
- Autism and social communication differences
- Developmental Language Disorder (DLD)
- Speech sound disorders
- Speech and language delay
- Developmental delay
- Down syndrome
- Learning disabilities
- Receptive and expressive language difficulties
- Attention and listening difficulties
- Social communication needs
- AAC and alternative communication needs
- Limited or no spoken language
- Early interaction and communication difficulties
- Vocabulary and sentence-building difficulties
The role is primarily focused on therapy and intervention, rather than assessment.
Key Responsibilities
You will:
- Travel to children’s homes to provide face-to-face speech and language therapy.
- Deliver individualised therapy based on the child’s identified goals and therapy programme.
- Plan engaging and developmentally appropriate therapy activities.
- Adapt sessions according to the child’s communication needs and interests.
- Work collaboratively with parents and carers.
- Provide families with practical strategies and activities to continue between sessions.
- Complete appropriate clinical notes and documentation.
- Monitor and record progress towards therapy goals.
- Liaise with the wider Unlocking Language clinical team when required.
- Maintain appropriate professional boundaries and confidentiality.
- Follow Unlocking Language’s safeguarding and clinical governance procedures.
- Work in accordance with HCPC and RCSLT professional standards.
Working Hours
We are particularly looking for therapists who can provide sessions:
Weekday evenings
and/or
Saturdays and Sundays
This is a flexible freelance opportunity and therapists can provide availability around their existing commitments.
Home visits will be allocated according to therapist availability and location, helping to make travel between clients as practical as possible.
Session Rate
£60 per session
This is a freelance / self-employed position.
Who We’re Looking For
Applicants must:
- Hold a recognised Speech and Language Therapy qualification.
- Be registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
- Be confident delivering paediatric speech and language therapy independently.
- Have excellent communication skills when working with children and families.
- Be organised and able to maintain accurate clinical documentation.
- Be reliable and able to commit consistently to agreed families.
- Have a good understanding of safeguarding, confidentiality and professional responsibilities.
- Be willing and able to travel to children’s homes within their agreed working area.
Previous paediatric experience is desirable.
